What is a Homeplug?

HomePlug is the name of a technology that linkes devices in a home through an electronic network. The technology is of type "Power Line Communication". This technology works as follows. All network signals are transfered on the power of the house. By pugging in an adapter (plug) into the socket you can pickup the network signals and transfer them to a PC or Laptop. It is strange that it has taken so long before the consumer (end user) is informed about this technology because the concept was made since the late 90s there. In 2000, a HomePlug Power Alliance, founded in 2001 and is a standard, version 1.0. This version provides a maximum throughput of 85Mbps (megabits per second). In 2005, launching the HomePlug Power Alliance version HomePlug AV. This provides a maximum throughput of 200Mbps (megabits per second). In 2011 they are working on the HomePlug AV2 standard which provides a maximum throughput of 500Mbps (megabits / second).
